WAVE – Women’s Action against Violent Extremism

MEFD event in the House of Commons regarding the human rights situation in #Iran Ms Shimaa Hassan Elsayed the founder of Women’s Action Against Violent Extremism (WAVE) and a leading committee member of Amnesty International UK Women’s Action Network (WAN) was also in attendance and expressed the deep concerns of both organisations in regard to the systematic violation of women’s right in Iran and use of vaguely worded national security charges to crack down on women’s human rights defenders and women’s rights activists. WAVE and WAN have been working together to campaign, in particular for women’s human rights defender in Iran Narges Mohammadi and British Iranian charity worker Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe. Ms Elsayed urged the British government “to call on Iranian authorities to release immediately and unconditionally Narges Mohammadi and Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and all other human rights defenders who have been imprisoned solely for peacefully exercising their rights.” #FreeNarges #NargesMohammad

The event was orgnised by (MEFD) chaired and hosted by Mr Jim Shannon, Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) Member of Parliament, and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for International Freedom of Religion or Belief. The speakers included Mr Mosa Zahed, executive director of Middle East Forum for Development; Ms Sara Saei, a student of spiritual teacher and prisoner of conscience Mohammad Ali Taheri #Taheri#FreeTaheri; Mr Reza Hosseinbor, Iranian Baloch human rights activist and Mr Qusay Doraghi, representative of Ahwaz Human Rights Organisation (AHRO) UK.The panellists addressed the grave human rights violations by the Iranian authorities in general and the persecution of Iran’s minorities in particular and further deliberated about how the international community can better support and protect such minorities
The panellists agreed that the UK government must relinquish political expediency and espouse a principled approach in solving Iran’s human rights crisis.

اجتماع في مجلس العموم بالبرلمان البريطاني بشأن حالة حقوق الإنسان في # إيران
تحدثت السيدة شيماء حسن, مؤسسة العمل النسائي ضد التطرف العنيف وعضوة بارزة في لجنة شبكة عمل المرأة بمنظمة العفو الدولية في المملكة المتحدة عن الشواغل العميقة لكلا المنظمتين فيما يتعلق بالانتهاك المنتظم لحقوق المرأة في إيران واستخدام التهم المتعلقه بالأمن الوطني التي صيغت بشكل غامض للقضاء على المدافعات عن حقوق الإنسان للمرأة والناشطين في مجال حقوق المرأة.
وقد عملت المنظمتين معا لحمله من اجل الافراج عن المدافعه عن حقوق الإنسان للمرأة في إيران نرجس محمدي والبريطانية الايرانيه نازنين الزغاري عامله الاغاثه بمؤسسة خيريه. وحثت السيدة شيماء الحكومة البريطانية على “دعوة السلطات الإيرانية إلى الإفراج الفوري وغير المشروط عن نرجس محمدي ونازنين الزغاري – راتكليف وجميع المدافعين عن حقوق الإنسان الآخرين الذين سجنوا لمجرد ممارستهم السلمية لحقوقهم”
نظم هذا الاجتماع منظمه منتدى الشرق الأوسط للتنمية
و ترأسه واستضافه عضو البرلمان السيد جيم شانون، عضوحزب الاتحاد الديمقراطي، ورئيس الفريق البرلماني للحزب للحرية الدولية للدين أوالمعتقد. وكان من بين المتحدثين السيد موسى زاهد، المدير التنفيذي لمنتدى الشرق الأوسط للتنمية؛ السيدة سارة ساعي، طالبة معلم روحاني وسجين ضمير محمد علي طاهري؛ السيد رضا حسينبور، الناشط الإيراني بالوش في مجال حقوق الإنسان والسيد كوساي دوراغي، ممثل منظمة أهواز لحقوق الإنسان في المملكة المتحدة. تناول أعضاء الفريق الانتهاكات الخطيرة لحقوق الإنسان من قبل السلطات الإيرانية بشكل عام واضطهاد الأقليات الإيرانية بشكل خاص، حول الكيفية التي يمكن بها للمجتمع الدولي أن يدعم هذه الأقليات ويحميها على نحو أفضل

واتفق المشاركون على أن الحكومة البريطانية يجب أن تتخلى عن المصلحة السياسية وأن تتبنى نهجا في حل أزمة إيران في مجال حقوق الإنسان.

Combat human rights trafficking, a collective action

WAVE believes to combat human rights trafficking, a collective action approach is needed – on 3 December 2018 we worked with the local police force in Sulamaniyah. WAVE’s Human Rights expert Jehad Hawez led the presentation of a lecture on best methods to combat the crime of Human Trafficking to local police officers.

16 Days of Activism

A special WAVE training event on 1 December 2018 marked the occasion of “16 Days of Activism” to highlight the fact that women’s rights are Human Rights (commencing with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November 2018 and concluding on International Human Rights Day, 10 December 2018). WAVE collaborated with the US Human Rights agency HRPDD (Human Rights Protection and Democracy Development) and MACOS Organisation – a local training agency based in the Kurdistan region of Iraq – to launch a series of Human Rights training courses on the topic of Female Trafficking. 22 local participants took part in this first training session, in Erbil, co-ordinated by WAVE Trainers Jihad Huez, Delair Jabari and Aso Qadir. The training programme will run in a number of cities throughout Iraq beyond the 16 Days of Activism.

Iraq: panel discussion on the challenges facing victims of terrorism

WAVE representative in Iraq, Delair Jabbari, facilitated a panel discussion on the challenges facing victims of terrorism, which included discussing the concept of terrorism and those who are victims of terrorism, the effects

of terrorism on victims, compensation of victims in local and international law and concluding recommendations to authorities. The session was organized by a group of human rights defenders in cooperation with the Iraqi Amal Association

Iraq – Message of peace and love

The Peace Iftar in Erbil brought together Muslims, Christians, Jews, Yazidis, Baha’is, Shabaks, Ka’akis, Arabs, Kurds and Turkmen, all at one table to share bread and send a message of peace and love.

The event was organised by WAVE in collaboration with the Altahreer Association for Development and the Social Academic Centre in the area of Ankawa.

Representatives from all faith attended the event, the governor of Erbil, a representative from the US Consulate in Kurdistan Region, members of the Parliament of Kurdistan, human rights activists and volunteer youth teams from the province of Mosul and other parts of Iraq.

The director of the Social Academic Center spoke of the importance of harmony between the various sectors of society.

Nawzad Hadi, Governor of Erbil spoke of the importance of peaceful coexistence and of promoting understanding, tolerance, mutual respect and friendship.

“We sent our thoughts and prayers to all affected by any form of violent extremism in any part of the world” said Yasmine Heyman, peace activist and one of the volunteers organising the event.

“We join the voices of the Yazidi families who are still waiting the return of their loved ones and join their call for justice.” Said Yasmine. She told our message to ISIS and other terrorists’ groups: “your attempt to divide us reinforce our commitment to be more united and our determination to fight your extremist ideology”.

Delair Jabari, WAVE representative, spoke about some Iraqi historical figures from all faith. Among them, he mentioned was the Christian architect Abodi Tunborgi, who restored the Humpback lighthouse (Minaret Ḥadba) of The Great Mosque of al-Nuri that threatened to collapse.

Everyone got together, shared food and listened to traditional music!

وقد جمع افطار السلام في اربيل بين المسلمين والمسيحيين واليهود وال اليزيديين والبهاء والمندائي وال كا والعرب والاكراد وال التركمانية, وكلها على طاولة واحدة لمشاركة الخبز وارسال رسالة السلام والحب.

ونظمت هذه المناسبة بالتعاون مع رابطة altahreer للتنمية والمركز الاكاديمي الاجتماعي في منطقة ankawa.

وحضر ممثلون من جميع الايمان الحدث, محافظ اربيل, وممثل من القنصلية الامريكية في اقليم كردستان, واعضاء برلمان كوردستان, ونشطاء حقوق الانسان, وافرقة شبابية تطوعية من محافظة الموصل وغيرها من اجزاء العراق.

– وتحدث مدير المركز الاكاديمي الاجتماعي عن اهمية الانسجام بين مختلف قطاعات المجتمع.

وتحدث nawzad هادي, محافظ اربيل, عن اهمية التعايش السلمي وتعزيز التفاهم والتسامح والاحترام المتبادل والصداقة.

“لقد ارسلنا افكارنا ودعواتنا الى جميع المتضررين من اي شكل من اشكال التطرف العنيف في اي جزء من العالم” قال ياسمين هيمان, وناشط السلام, وواحد من المتطوعين تنظيم الحدث.

” نحن ننضم الى اصوات العائلات اليزيديين التي لا تزال تنتظر عودة من تحبهم وتنضم الى ندائهم للعدالة.” قال ياسمين. وقد اخبرت رسالتك الى داعش ومجموعات ارهابية اخرى: “ان محاولتك لتقسيم الولايات المتحدة تعزز التزامنا بان نكون اكثر متحدين وتصميمنا على محاربةتك المتطرفة”.

وتحدث delair الجعبري, ممثل الموجة, عن بعض الارقام التاريخية العراقية من كل الايمان. ومن بين هؤلاء, ذكر المهندس المعماري المسيحي ب tunborgi, الذي اعاد المنارة الحدباء (المئذنة hadbaa) من مسجد نوري الكبير الذي هدد بالانهيار.

الجميع معا, و المشتركة الطعام واستمع الى الموسيقى التقليدية!

The event is a workshop organised by WAVE and hosted by Middle Eastern Women and Society Organisation (MEWSO). Please join the workshop to call for peace and stand in solidarity with victims of Cairo St. Peter and St. Paul’s or (Botroseya) Church attack occurred on Subday 11th December, 2016.

Islamic State claimed responsibility for the bombing that killed at least 27 mostly women and wounded 49 people. The attack was the country’s worst act of sectarian violence in recent years.
